5 Simple Ways I Use Dataview in Obsidian
Dataview makes sense in my daily notes, people notes, and area or project notes.
As someone who hasn’t worked with a programming language in more than 25 years (hello, FORTRAN), getting started with Dataview in my Obsidian vault was daunting.
To do this work, I leaned into my willingness to try things until they worked. That included changing parts of the code block until they did what I wanted them to do.
I don’t use Dataview much in my personal knowledge management vault, but I’ve still found it useful in three places.
Daily Note
I struggle with being aware of what I do in a given day. I’m excellent at overlooking big and small things, which leads to self-flagellation for my perceived laziness. One of the ways I combat these feelings is to include three sections at the bottom of my Daily note for collecting the following:
- Tasks Completed Today
- Notes Created Today
- Notes Modified Today
The Code
The below shows the Dataview block inside callout blocks. If you’re not nesting this way, you’d leave out the greater than sign.
